Back to School is also Back to Sports

As your child is getting ready for their soccer, football, tennis, or other sports season, it is essential to make sure they have all the equipment they need. One of the most important pieces of equipment your son or daughter needs in any sport is eyegear. Prevent Blindness has shown that over 33,000 Americans were treated for a sports-related eye injury in 2017 and the numbers have yet to go down. Up to 90% of those injuries could have been prevented with sport protective eyewear like Rec Specs. Don’t let your child be one of the statistics this year, get them fitted with Rec Specs.

Athletes Are Compromising Vision Performance for Convenience.

How many of your patients are athletes and/or outdoor enthusiasts? How many times has a patient complained about the challenges they have faced in an environment described as “constantly changing.” Perhaps they are playing golf and as the day progresses, the greens look altered. Or you have a patient who plays hockey and they struggle in certain arenas due to poor lighting. Continue reading →

Stay Clear of Winter Dry Eyes

Harsh winter weather can strain your eyes – cold temperatures, wind, snow and dry air indoors can all play a role in eye health.

It may be harder for your eyes to focus or you may want to rub them more frequently – but do not give in. This is your body’s way of telling you that your eyes are irritated and that you most likely have dry eyes.

What are the symptoms of Dry Eyes? To name a few:

Burning Sensation

Red Eyes

Watering Eyes

Light Sensitivity

Focus on Football—The Eyes Have It

With all the attention being paid to concussions and joint injuries in football, it’s easy to overlook the importance of eye protection. While helmets and faceguards are much improved these days, they don’t always provide the protection needed to prevent eye injuries, especially when it comes to contact sports.

Tips for Selecting the Right Sport Protective Eyewear for Your Child

As more top athletes are seen wearing protective eye gear, those glasses, goggles and masks that kids used to hate have suddenly become cool. Not only do they tell the world they take playing seriously, they can also enhance performance. But even the best gear in the world won’t do any good if it’s not worn, so how do you ensure your young athlete will use the eyewear you’ve gone to the trouble and expense to provide it? It all comes down to fit and function.

Eyewear Solutions for the Multi-Sport Athlete

Face it, when it comes to protective eyewear, no one frame style is perfect for all sports. Lacrosse, hockey, football and other sports require helmets that cover the ears, making eyeglasses with rigid temples impractical. Goggles with elastic straps are the choice for those activities. But tennis, racquetball, basketball and soccer players may prefer a more traditional eyeglass design for comfort and active use.

Does this mean that multi-sport athletes need to invest in several pairs of athletic eyewear? Not if they have Sport Shift eyewear from Liberty Sport.
